Shopping Cart Cover / Highchair Cover Tutorial

I finally got the computer away from my husband the flight simulator addict and wrote up the shopping cart cover tutorial.  I had all the pictures done by last weekend, but we all know I had the paper from hell and a test for the same class due this past week.

It's complete, and you don't need a pattern!  Click on this link or click the picture.  It's a PDF document you can save to your computer. It's fairly straightforward with lots of pictures and easy even for a beginner. 

Everyone raise your hand if you hate patterns.  Ah yes...you...and you...and you...  I knew I wasn't the only one. ;)

Math Geek + Twirly Skirt = The Analytical Twirly Skirt

Here's a treat! A twirly skirt made without a pattern, and you can make in any size with just two measurements.

Well, now my secret will be out.  After viewing this pattern, you will take a peep into how my brain works.  I am very analytical and think in math; I don't know why, and it can drive you crazy (just ask my husband). 

If you are not so good at math, then after seeing this twirly skirt pattern, you will most likely want to throw daggers at me, and I'm sorry, lol.  The reason this pattern is written in math equations is so you can literally make it in any size you want, and it comes out extra twirly.  It's so gathered that my daughter and customers have loved it, especially for twirling purposes.

Enjoy!  And...it's good for a homeschool project for girls, so they can figure out their own measurements for a skirt.

Baby Kimono

So I was searching for a template to make paper dresses, and I happened upon this adorable little kimono top for babies over on Martha Stewart's site. At first I was thinking it was made out of paper, then as I looked at it, I realized it's a cute little top for your newborn baby. They are so adorable and quick to whip up for newborns. There is a pattern you print out and then tape together and the instructions have pictures included for easy sewing. I just had to share for those of you looking for free baby clothes sewing patterns. There is a mini picture of the entire pattern after you piece it together, and that you can use to make paper t-shirts or a baby kimono top for scrapbooking and altered art purposes.

Now I'm off to do some school work (almost done forever!!), then indulge in some paper dressmaking before bed. I found some adorable templates for paper dresses for scrapbooking and altered art that I'll put up when I upload pics of my paper dresses. You would not believe how hard a time I had finding these things. I thought I was going to have to competely go from scratch, which sometimes scares me. I am very visual, and I like to look at examples to get my inspirations a lot of times if I have never made something before; otherwise, I feel like I'm going into it blind and will totally screw it up.

Pumpkin Spiders are coming this weekend!!

The first pattern in our series of applique designs to create boutique embellished overalls is coming out today!! Yay!! Now you can make your very own pumpkin spider embellished overalls for Halloween!! This is recommended for an advanced beginner or slightly intermediate seamstress because of the curves to the appliques. Curves are the hardest thing to applique.

I just finished Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister last night, I'll post a review later as I've been on the computer entirely too much today and my children are wrinkled prunes in the swimming pool. I'll just say the ending is big WOW. You think the whole book is one thing and find out something totally unexpected. Don't you love books and movies like that? I do.

I'll post some sneak peeks of my Gypsy Tote samples in the next day. It's just what I was picturing.

Updating Apron Top Pattern

7/2008 - EDITED TO ADD - There is now a nursing apron top tutorial too, it is located on the left in the Freebie section.

Also, if anybody is interested in the nursing/breastfeeding apron top version, post in the comments and if there is enough interest (and/or begging, lol) then I'll add that option to the pattern as well.



An apron top is a backless summer shirt, much like a halter style top, but it is backless. I discovered apron tops many years ago when my daughter was a toddler. I began offering them on my web site soon after, including nursing/breastfeeding ones. You can make them from just about any kind of woven fabric. I prefer 100% cotton quilting quality woven fabrics because they feel so nice against the skin. Hemp silk dupioni was the most popular choice with my customers.

This pattern is very easy for beginner seamstresses as it is basically a rectangle. It’s something fun, quick, and easy to make too! This apron top pattern is lined (or you can even make it reversible). It laces down the back and the straps tie at the bottom. There are some options throughout the pattern so read through the entire pattern before you begin. I like to make a coordinating strip skirt or bloomers for little girls to go with an apron top.
