Waldorf Doll Tutorial

I know my waldorf doll tutorial is much loved, and I often get emails about it.  I've spent the last few hours updating it to a printable PDF. I've also updated it in the side bar of tutorials.

You can download it here.

If you are new to my blog, I have a jointed waldorf doll sew along tutorial that is fairly easy.  It has lots of pictures for each step, and it includes a printable pattern for the body, arms, and legs as well.  I will warn you that these are time consuming little creatures, but it's such a satisfying feeling to finish one.

I'm in the midsts of making a couple waldorf dolls for my microboutique, and in doing so, I will soon have a waldorf doll wig tutorial as well available for download in the very near future.

I'll keep you posted!

Fabric mail day!!

Yippee! My package from Japan arrived. Here is what I got:
Some green hedgehog print I've been dying to get my hands on, an adorable robot and rocket print, and two little red riding hood prints. I know it's kind of girlie fabric, but Mr E is obsessed with the story of Little Red Riding Hood, so I'm going to make him a pillowcase. And I got these two books. One is waldorf dolls with great pictures on how to make a wire frame body which I've always wanted to do, and the other is how to cut up gloves into dolls plus other dolls too like fairies and witches that are waldorf style.

Waldorf Dolls - where to get wool stuffing

It's so yummy to get wool stuffing in the mail, lol. I had some arrive a few days ago. It comes from Amish country.

I've been running low on wool stuffing for awhile now since I don't make a ton of waldorf dolls much anymore and I've needed some more so I can take pictures of my fairy ears and wings tutorial for a waldorf doll. So I thought I would share my not-not-so-well-known source for wool stuffing. It's not really a secret, but it is not well known either. This place is cheap. I think it's around $7 for 1 pound. I just ordered only 2 pounds this time and it was about $20 including shipping. I know most online places charge about $12 for 1 lb, so this is pretty good savings. I've been using them for years and have always had excellentn and prompt service.

They also have wool roving in natural and colors. My husband called my order in for me (because I have this phobia of telephone calls, lol), and he's not here to remind me how much the roving is so I can't tell you. I've never purchased it, but the price seemed pretty reasonable as well. I used to buy wool roving from eBay to make wool balls, and I bought it from a lady who called it "dragon waste". It came in all kinds of cool colors, but she doesn't sell it anymore. It was such nice stuff....I digress.

Anyway, the man who sells it sells it for the Amish from what I remember, since they can't exactlly take phone orders, lol. And they take credit cards too!

Fairy and Elf Waldorf Dolls

Use coupon code CHICK to get 10% off sewing patterns at TipToeFairy.com!!!

Several years ago I had a successful waldorf doll business called SnuggleBees. But I got pregnant with baby #2 and I knew soon I wouldn't be able to make them with a newborn around, it's a lot of hand sewing so I decided to sell the biz. I had turned her down previously, lol. So I sold them most of my patterns but I kept my special ones.

So what does this have to do with anything? My waldorf doll tutorial needs some cleaning up. There will be a printable PDF pattern and some updated pictures for the tutorial coming soon.

When I make waldorf dolls, fairies and elves are some of the most popular (mermaids too, but we'll get to that soon). Do you believe in fairies? I do, fairies and mermaids are my favorite style of waldorf doll to design.

I'm creating a little pattern on how to turn your waldorf doll into a fairy or elf:
- how to dye mohair yarn into fairy colors
- pattern to add pointy fairy and elf ears to your waldorf doll
- patterns to make detachable wings for your waldorf doll
- pattern for a petal fairy skirt or dress for you waldorf doll too.
Below are some examples of my fairies and elves
