North Pole Days

Having attended my first craft fair with the Etsy craft fair this month, I'm not as terrified as I was. It was a lot of fun, so my hubby and I have decided to do another one before Christmas this year.

In our small town, we have a festival called North Pole Days.  For the month of December, our town is called North Pole, and if you mail anything to Krum,TX it will be stamped "North Pole."  Isn't that cute?

We have a festival with a tree lighting and parade and a chili dinner  and...a Craft Fair!  The TipToe Fairy will be at the craft fair this Saturday, December 1st from 9 am to 4 pm.  It will be held at the Early Education Center in Krum.

We'll have lots of fun stuff - tutus, baby things, hair bows, American Girl fantasy wear like tutus and mermaid tails, and more.  Come see us!

The Booth At The End - Season 2 Premiere!!

I clicked on Hulu tonight to see if my favorite show was back.  It had been a few days since I had checked last.  And guess what?  The first episode of season 2 was up.  Oh and it was just as good as the first season.  I can't wait for the rest!!

Literally, in the first 2 1/2 minutes of the show he tells one lady what she has to do to save her 3 year old who has some horrible brain disease, and I was like "Wha?????"  I had to rewind and hear it again.

And, the blond waitress, Doris, from last season is back.  She's definitely up to more than we thought last time. Oh geez, and the teenage girl who wanted to help her dad from last season, we thought the hermit serial killer murdered her, but she's back, and she's seriously creepy.

Last season I was thinking he's the devil or one of the devil's minions, but with Doris thrown into it, now I'm not so sure who he is.

Anyway, if you are someone who loves different, thought-provoking tv shows, which there isn't that much out there, this show is for you.  It is like Lost in the way that you have to pay attention every second or you'll miss something.  I'm so excited it's back!

Don't you just hate Netflix when....

you find a show you LOVE, and it's been canceled?

Before I whine about this, I am honestly not a spokeperson for Roku, I just love that thing.

We don't have regular tv or cable tv or even satellite tv.  We have a Roku in both our living room and bedroom.  We subscribe to Netflix streaming, Amazon Prime, and Hulu Plus.  So, what used to be a $70 satellite tv bill (of which was one of the lowest packages we could find) is now about $20/month.  Woohoo!  Plus, we can watch it all on our iPhones, iPods, and iPads.  Seriously, if you want to cut the cable bill, you can do it a lot cheaper as long as you have a decent internet connection with Roku.  And, the best thing about Roku is you don't have to have one of them fancy flat screen tv's.  Nope, it will work on the older televisions too.  Oh wait, and one more wonderful little thing -- if you lose the Roku remote, they have a FREE app for the remote on your iPhone.  Don't ask me how many times we've lost the remote and had to use the app, it's rather embarrassing.   But I digress.

So, I've been catching up on years and years of shows I was interested in a few years ago when my life was in turmoil.  Surface, anyone?  That darn show ended on episode 15 with them trapped in the bell tower of a church after a tsunami.  What the heck?  How can you leave us hanging like that network tv?  This is why I hate network television, too.

Then, I just discovered this Joss Whedon show called Dollhouse.  We love Joss Whedon in our house....Firefly, anyone?  How did Dollhouse get cancelled?  I'm totally hooked on it right now.  Well, that and Damages.  Oh, and do you remember Persons Unknown a couple summers ago?   That was so cool!  Then, it never came back.  I hate this Netflix.  It keeps getting me hooked on canceled shows.  I did get my husband addicted to Jericho....also cancelled, though I did hear Netflix or Hulu or somebody might resurrect it.

But Hulu has this awesome show.  You have to watch it.  It's called The Booth at the End.  If you like shows like Lost or Alfred Hitchock, you will LOVE this show.  The entire show takes place in this booth, but so much happens, you will be shocked as it progresses.  They said it's coming back for season 2, I cannot wait.  I keep checking, but no season 2 yet.  My luck, it's gonna get canceled.

Rootin' Tootin Cowboy Pants - Make Your Own!

UntitledI found this fabric at Joann's forever ago in hopes of making these adorable little cowboy pants when Mr E was just a toddler.  It fell to the depths of my fabric stash until last night when I rediscovered it.  It's this super soft baby wale cord with these adorable appliqued felt stars.  The first time I saw it told me it was going to end up as cowboy pants with fringe, and sure enough, it did.  I had just enough for a pair of toddler boy shorts and a pair of baby pants.
Untitled
Apart from the wrinkles because they had been in my bag, they came out just as I envisioned, so I wanted to share.  So cute and colorful!  I wish I had bought more of that fabric....sigh.  Don't you hate that? You find a fabric you absolutely LOVE in your stash and it's just a yard or two and you bought it like a million years ago?

I just took both pairs over to my booth at the Creative Collective in Fort Worth today.  They are finally having a grand opening next weekend on the 16th from 10 AM to 2 PM.  If you are local to the DFW area, there is going to be food and music and lots of giveaways.

These was made from my Boutique Cowboy Pants tutorial.  Check it out to make your little boy (or girl!) a pair.

Subway Art Teacher Gift & A Creepy Piano

UntitledI saw this absolutely adorable subway art sign for a teacher's gift over at My Sister's Suitcase. They have several really great ideas for teachers, so head on over there and check them out. I think they originally got the idea from eighteen25, which is where you can print the awesome sign, among other cool stuff too!

I decided the subway art was the perfect gift for my son's teacher, so I made one today for him to bring to school tomorrow.  I really like how it came out.  I used the idea of gluing a pencil to the top and tied it off with ribbon.  I also picked up a neat little plate holder from Goodwill that I'm sending along with the sign.

I had two purposes for going to Goodwill.  The first one was that plate holder you can see holding the sign above.  The second was I saw bikes there for $15.95/each earlier this week.  So, hubby and I got two really nice bikes.  However....if we could have gotten our rears up earlier in the day, we could have gotten them for 50% off of that price  We are such losers.  I thought the email said the sale was all day, but unfortunately the 50% off everything at Goodwill sale ended at noon.  We finally made it at 2 pm.

UntitledOh yes, I just remembered the rest of the title is "a creepy piano."  So, here it is in all its former glory.  An orange dreamsicle colored child's piano.  Think of all the creepy music in a horror movie, especially one that could possible involve possessed dolls...yep, that's what it sounds like.  Awesome, huh? My 2 year old LOVES it!

I'm definitely refinishing it.  Already have the sand paper ready.  But, I'm debating on selling it at The TipToe Fairy boutique or keeping it for my two year old and my husband, the lover of all things musical no matter how creepy.  I made him drive up to Goodwill to take the bikes home in his car, and when I showed him the piano, he literally could not keep his hands off it.  What a weirdo, lol.

On a side note to all the Texans, who the heck are you voting for in the primary?  I can't stand anybody. I'm not even sure if I'm going to the Democratic or Republican primary tomorrow.

Review: The Weight of Silence

The Weight of Silence
The Weight of Silence by Heather Gudenkauf

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I have really enjoyed Heather Gudenkauf's books. This one is a fast read. I couldn't put it down for 2 days straight. The anticipation of what happens to these two little girls was driving me to want to skip to the end, but I fought the urge.

I wish Petra's story would have been told a little more. While there were little bits and pieces in the book to give you clues to what happens to her, I just wished it had been explored more in the story. With everything else in the story being "real time," it just seems odd that you find out what happens to her after the fact.

Antonia drove me crazy. Her relationship with Louis drove me insane, too. Why dump your childhood sweetheart for a nasty drunken idiot just because he goes to better himself at college for a few years? They had this unbreakable bond since 2nd or 3rd grade and then you hate him because he is going off to college? And another thing about her was the whole relationship with Griff. For Toni to be this amazing girl with big brothers who would and could not deter her as she grew up, and then she ends up a battered wife just doesn't seem realistic to me. Who would not run from someone who threatens you on your "first date?" I just find it hard to believe her mother dying just drove her to stupidity.

I did enjoy the epilogue from Calli. I always hate when a book just ends after a huge ordeal, and you end up wondering what happened to the characters.

The TipToe Fairy Micro Boutique is Open!

My mom and I have a "microboutique," as she calls it, which is called The TipToe Fairy.  It is at this really awesome "etsy-esque" place known as the Creative Collective in Fort Worth. They opened for business on May 1st.  I had heard that the official Grand Opening was scheduled for May 12th, but I'm not sure if that has been pushed back.  However, they are indeed open for business now Wed-Sun.

We've created a Facebook page for The TipToe Fairy.  I think if you "like" it, you'll get our updates, which will be about once a week about the new stuff up at the microboutique.

Also, I created a blog where we will show pic of the latest things going up for sale.  You can find it here, The TipToe Fairy Blog. We were in such a rush to get things to the store, we forgot to take pictures of it all.  So, this picture shows a bunch of our wares.  Quilts, lots of applique baby things such as upcycled clothing and tiedyed onesies, freshly made one of a kind boutique outfits, and lots of baby things like yummy organic bamboo wipes.

If you're local and interested in being a vendor at the Creative Collective, I think there are still spots open.  Their Facebook page is Creative Collective Fort Worth .

I'm so excited!  I heard through my mom that I've had some sales in the last day or so.  Woohoo!

I've just spent the last day cleaning my sewing pit.  Boxes were EVERYWHERE!  I'm getting back to the sewing and will have lots more stuff coming soon (i.e. before the grand opening this weekend)...diaper bags, tote bags, one of a kind clothing, and more!

The Fault in Our Stars

The Fault in Our StarsThe Fault in Our Stars by John Green
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Sometime last year I preordered this book for my husband, probably the biggest 30something grown man fan of John Green EVER. Seriously, if they made a John Green sheet and comforter set, it would be on our bed. It arrived yesterday, and like the good wife that I am, I waited for him to arrive home and open it to see what color sharpie John Green had signed his book. (It was red, btw.) Anyway, after watching my husband read it for 2 1/2 hours nonstop last night, I promptly stole it off his nightstand around 1 am, and I finished it just a mere few moments ago.

I have to say of all the John Green books, this one is my favorite. I think it is that even though they were two cancer-filled teenagers, their relationship reminded me of our courtship, which began over an email conversation in regards to having a relationship with "more light than heat." I found out later that was my sweet husband's hidden attempt at "testing" my intelligence.

Anyway, enough about me, let's talk about the book. I had listened before to my husband's vlogbrother videos when John had read from the book, so I knew the premise. I was worried it would be a rather painful story since you figured someone was eventually going to die. However, it wasn't like that. I loved the love story. It brings back those memories of first falling for the love of your life. It was a fun and funny, and the plot twists were unexpected.
